WHAT WE BELIEVE & TEACH

The Bible… the inspired word of God, Old Testament and New Testament without error in its original manuscripts, the final, authoritative written, word of God for faith and life, revealing Jesus, therefore we at Anchor teach through the Bible—chapter by chapter, book by book.

2 Tim. 3:15-17, 2 Pet. 1:21, Heb. 10:7, Acts 20:27

God… there is one God, eternal, immutable, existing in three distinct persons. Father, Son, Holy Spirit—all equal in glory and power.

2 Cor. 13:14, John 14:16, Matt. 28:19, 1 Pet. 1:2, John 10:30, Deut. 6:4

Jesus… He is God. He became a man, conceived from the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin. He is the promised Messiah, he lived a sinless life, became our sin and therefore provided atonement and forgiveness for our sins by going to the cross to die in our place. He died, was buried and three days later rose from the dead. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by Him. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father where He is interceding for us and is preparing a place for us.

John 1:36-42, Isa. 7:14, Matt. 1:18-25, Luke 1:30-35, Luke 2:1-7, Heb. 4:15, Heb. 7:25, John 1:1 & 14, John 20:28, 1 Cor. 15:1-4, 2 Cor. 5:21, Phil. 2:5-11, John 10:30, John 14:6

Holy Spirit… the Holy Spirit was promised by Jesus and given to the early church on the day of pentecost after Jesus ascended into heaven. We believe the Holy Spirit is with us, in us, and upon us as believers, for the empowering to live a godly life and to be witnesses for Jesus. Genuine believers born again of the Holy Spirit, indwelt, and baptized into the body of Christ (the true church) and sealed by the Holy Spirit, therefore unable to be separated from the love of Christ. We believe that the gifts of the spirit and the fruit of the spirit are available to believers today. We believe love is the greatest gift and that which all other fruit flows from. The Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus, not himself.

John 14:16-18 & 26, John 15:26, John 16:5-15, Acts 1:8-2:4, Eph. 4:30, Eph. 5:18, Rom. 12:6-8, 1 Cor. 12:1-11, Gal. 5:22-23, Eph. 4:11-12, 1 Cor. 13

Salvation… All mankind is born lost and with a sin nature. Salvation is only found in Jesus and faith in His death, burial and resurrection, not by works or self righteousness. By grace, through faith, you have been saved. We need Christ’s righteousness imparted to us.

John 3:16, John 5:24, Rom. 3:10 & 23, Rom. 5:6-8, Rom. 6:23, Rom. 10:9-10, Eph. 2:8-9, Luke 19:10

Church… Jesus Christ is the head of the church—His body. He will build His church. We hold to the early church model of Acts 2:42. The apostles doctrine, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer. We also hold to the practice of water baptism—an outward expression of an inward change. This is not required for salvation but a showing that one is saved. We hold to the practice of communion, which looks back in faith and we remember that which our Lord did for us, and we look forward to His soon return.

Eph. 2:19-22, 1 Cor. 11:24-30, Acts 1:4-5, Mark 11:17, Eph. 5:23, 1 Cor. 12:12-27, Rom. 6:3-4, Matt. 28:19-20

Satan… There is a real literal devil called Satan, who with his fallen angels, also called demons, evil spirits, false gods, are destined to spend eternity in hell—a place God created for them. They now seek to deceive the world, defeat believers, and destroy the work of God, but can be resisted by believers that are indwelt of God and protected by the Holy Spirit, who are prayed for by Jesus.

Gen. 3:1, Job 1:6-12, Matt. 4:1-11, Luke 22:31-32, John 13:21-30, Rev. 20:7-10, Isa. 14:12-17, Luke 10:17-20, Eze. 28:14-19

Heaven… A real place where believers will dwell together forever in the presence of Jesus.

Hell… A real place created for Satan and his demons, and all those who’s names are not written in the Lamb’s book of life will go. They go by their own choice, God doesn’t send them there. They want life without God, why would they want eternity with God?

John 14:1-3, Acts 7:54-60, 2 Cor. 5:1-8, Eph. 1:13-14, Rev. 20:11-15, Rev. 21:1-8, Rev. 22:1-5

Rapture/2nd Coming… We await the blessed hope—the personal, imminent, pre-tribulation, pre-coming of Jesus—to meet Him in the clouds. The rapture is for the church. His 2nd coming to earth is with those He raptures—His saints—to establish His millennial kingdom.

1 Thes. 4:13-18, 1 Cor. 15:50-58, Rev. 19:11-16, Rev. 20:4-6, Titus 2:13, Acts 1:11

Israel… The nation Israel has a special place in God’s plan and all the promises of God to Israel will be fulfilled.

Gen. 12:1-3, Rom. 9, 10, 11

Mankind… The human race was created male and female on purpose by God to fully reveal His image.

Gen. 1:26-31, Mark 10:6, Matt. 19:4

Abortion... We believe in the sanctity of life and that all humans are created in the image of God. As believers, we are called to protect, defend and value all human life, including the unborn baby.

Psa. 139:13-16, Jer. 1:4-5, Gal. 1:15, Luke 1:41, 44, Prov. 31:8-9

Marriage… The union of marriage is sacred and a picture of Christ and his church. We believe it is only between a man and a woman—monogamous, faithful, committed, heterosexual marriage.

Gen. 2:20-25, Eph. 5:22-23, Mark 10:3-9, Matt. 19:1-9
